Dematic Automates Two Distribution Centers for Würth Australia

Dematic has received an order from Würth Australia to automate order processing at the Yatala locations in the state of Queensland and Keysborough in the state of Victoria. As the intralogistics provider announced yesterday, integrated solutions from automated warehouse technology, manual picking areas, and conveyor technology are to be created. The first facility is scheduled to be operational by August 2027, with the second to follow in December 2027.

Würth Australia is part of the Würth Group and supplies fastening and assembly materials to customers in the automotive industry, transportation, manufacturing, maintenance, construction, and mining sectors. According to company data, the range includes more than 22,000 products. The recipients include over 56,000 active customers. With the automation, the company aims to improve inventory management and order processing within its nationwide distribution network and create additional capacities for further growth.

Autostore for Different Picking Requirements

At the heart of the intralogistics solutions planned by Dematic is an Autostore system. The automated storage technology operates on the goods-to-person principle and allows for compact storage of items. The picking process is designed for both individual products and complete packaging units.

In addition to the automated processes, the facility concept includes manual picking areas. These are intended for handling items that have special storage or handling requirements. Dematic thus combines different picking methods to accommodate Würth Australia’s extensive product range during order processing.

Conveying Technology Connects Order Picking and Shipping

After automated or manual order picking, orders are transferred via conveying technology to the downstream processing stations. There, the required shipping documents are first inserted. This is followed by the optimization and sealing of the shipping cartons and their labeling.

In the final process step, the packages are sorted by shipping destinations. The conveying technology thus connects the different order picking areas with the packaging and shipping processes. The integrated plant concept is intended to support order processing at both locations.

Control Software Coordinates the Flow of Goods

For controlling the automated processes, Dematic uses its Warehouse Control System. This is integrated into the Warehouse Management System of Würth Australia.

The control software takes over the coordination of picking tasks and the flow of goods within the automated facility areas. This integrates the individual automated process steps into the existing warehouse management.

Commissioning at Two Locations in 2027

The implementation will take place at two locations of the Australian distribution network. The facility in Yatala, Queensland is scheduled to start operations in August 2027. The commissioning of the larger facility in Keysborough, Victoria is planned for December 2027.

Both locations will receive automation solutions tailored to the product range, which combine automated storage and picking with manual processing operations and downstream shipping technology.

With the investments, Würth Australia aims to improve inventory management and the flow of goods as well as to further develop order processing for its nationwide customer network. Dematic did not provide information on the investment volume, the storage capacities of the Autostore systems, or the expected performance improvements in the announcement.
