Fiege digitizes load carrier management with Loopario

The logistics service provider Fiege is introducing the load carrier management system "Loopario" from the Dortmund technology company of the same name. The software is intended to combine operational load carrier movements and their commercial evaluation in a joint digital solution. According to its own information, Fiege manages around 4.7 million load carriers. The introduction begins with the company's tire racks. A gradual expansion to other load carriers is planned from the second quarter of 2027.

Fiege uses various types of load carriers at its 131 locations in 15 countries. These include Euro pallets, mesh boxes, and H1 pallets, as well as customer-specific special load carriers and racks for tire transport. The management of these load carriers is currently carried out through different systems. According to the company, movement data from the transport management system is already partially processed automatically. However, the monthly commercial evaluation is still conducted separately from the operational processes. With Loopario's load carrier management system, this information is intended to be consolidated in the future. The software aims to create a common data basis for inventories, movements, and costs. Through this, Fiege intends to improve the economic evaluation of its load carrier processes and detect discrepancies between recorded inventories and movements earlier.

Focus on Commercial Evaluation and Automation

With the introduction, the logistics service provider is pursuing three main objectives. Firstly, all pallet and load carrier movements should be regularly and fully evaluated commercially. With this, Fiege aims to optimize the profit and loss account for the pallet sector on a more comprehensive data basis.

Secondly, the degree of automation in load carrier management should increase. For this purpose, the company wants to further standardize processes and reduce recurring manual activities. This should provide employees with more capacity for other tasks.

An additional goal is to expand services for their own customers. This particularly includes the digital integration of partners involved in the load carrier cycle. It aims to simplify the coordination of load carrier accounts and accelerate the resolution of discrepancies. Furthermore, Fiege aims to improve transparency regarding load carrier losses. The central recording of movement and inventory data is intended to help systematically identify deviations and initiate appropriate measures.

Introduction Begins in Tire Logistics

The collaboration was preceded by a consulting project that began in November 2025. Fiege and Loopario examined the existing load carrier processes and possible improvements. The operational project start took place in July 2026.

In the first phase, Fiege is introducing the software for managing its tire racks. The system will initially be used alongside existing applications at all tire locations. By the end of October 2026, the previous processes are to be recorded, relevant information compiled, and the operations further standardized.

The parallel use allows the company to continue the previous management of the tire racks during the introduction phase. A complete replacement of the existing systems has not been announced for this project section.

Expansion planned from the second quarter of 2027

After completing the first project phase, the companies intend to evaluate the results so far. Based on this, the load carrier management system is to be gradually expanded to other types of load carriers from the second quarter of 2027.

In the long term, Fiege aims to achieve a unified digital management of its various load carriers. Operational movement data, inventory information, and commercial evaluations are to be processed within a common system environment.
