New construction in Altdorf: Klinkhammer implements automated small parts warehouse for Korrodin

On approximately 3,800 square meters of logistics space, an automatic small parts warehouse with 40,000 storage spaces and a manual pallet warehouse with a capacity of about 4,000 pallets are being built. After a concept and planning phase, Klinkhammer received the order for the automated intralogistics solution. Korrodin supplies customers from industry, automotive, aerospace, and medical technology and currently manages more than 90,000 items. The existing automatic small parts warehouse at the previous location in Nuremberg had reached its performance limits. The new facility in Altdorf is intended to optimize material flows, create additional storage capacities, and enable further company growth.

Small Parts Warehouse for Containers up to 50 Kilograms

Already in the concept phase, Klinkhammer, together with Korrodin, the logistics employees, specialized planners, and architects, developed a future-proof logistics concept. In addition to evaluating various real estate and location options, material flow, process sequences, and the ergonomic design of workplaces were the focus.

Technically, the new small parts warehouse is designed for the special requirements of the connection specialist. Since a significant portion of the articles have high weights, the facility is designed for containers with weights up to 50 kilograms. Three different height classes for containers and trays also allow for flexible storage of various sized products and improve the utilization of the storage space.

Ten Workstations for Order Picking and Packaging

Another focus is on order picking. Ten ergonomically designed workstations, connected with conveyor technology, each have four buffer places as well as integrated weight and height control to prevent picking errors. In addition, packaging services such as forming exact piece-count small packages are carried out at the workstations. For sensitive products, a dust-free picking workstation is also set up under cleanroom-like conditions. This allows Korrodin to meet the quality requirements of customers in certain industries.
