Schmalz combines ergonomics and vacuum technology for handling

Back disorders are among the most common causes of work absences in many industrial sectors. Activities involving repeated bending particularly strain the lumbar spine continuously. These include loading and unloading machines, tile or pavement work, and assembling heavy components. The "Nexo Pro" torso flexion exoskeleton from Schmalz addresses this issue. It is a passive assistance system and thus operates without a battery or motor. Integrated elements in the frame support the lower back, channel the resulting forces to the pelvic area, and relieve the muscles by up to 30 percent. The level and onset of support are individually adjustable. The exoskeleton weighs around five kilograms, can be put on and taken off in a few seconds, and is available in two clothing sizes. The removable textile elements can be cleaned and reused, reducing costs and enabling more sustainable operation, even when used by changing teams.
