Smart Label – Smart Automation: Using digital intralogistics solutions to prepare the warehouse for the future
With the digital intralogistics solutions from Bito-Lagertechnik, the user is supposed to get an overview of inventories and material flows in real time so that storage locations, goods inventories, and movements are traceable at all times in the warehouse and production area. The intelligent control and monitoring reduce sources of error and specifically relieve the employees.
"As a full-service provider of storage technology and intralogistics solutions, Bito combines its proven storage technology in shelving systems and container systems with innovative digital solutions that can be integrated smartly and seamlessly into existing structures and expanded step by step. This creates future-proof solutions that reduce costs in the long term and permanently increase efficiency," says Christian Mohr, Product Management and Business Development Bito-Lagertechnik.
With the help of intelligent warehouse management, or warehouse analysis and the digitization of shelves with pick-by-light, pick-by-voice, and smart labels, Bito-Lagertechnik supports the optimization of material flow, reduces search and travel times in the warehouse according to their own information, and ensures full transparency and high process security.
Intralogistics Automation with Smart Labels and LEO Transporters
For an intelligent, easily implementable, and efficient automated production supply process, Bito-Lagertechnik integrates, for example, their driverless transport systems "LEO flow" and "LEO carrier" with digital piece goods flow racks as a conveyor system and Bito reusable containers equipped with smart labels. With the “LEO flow,” transports in the logistics and production area can be combined in a space-saving manner with conveyor technology. To automate and make the material flow intelligent, the reusable containers are marked with wireless digital smart displays as fully integrable smart labels. The displays detect and indicate whether a container is empty or filled. The LEO system, in turn, transports the container back and forth between the piece goods flow rack and the production machine based on its status and information. The "LEO flow" automatically takes empty containers, whose smart labels indicate "empty," from the piece goods flow rack and brings them to a production machine. Here, the smart label switches to "full" as soon as the containers are loaded. Subsequently, the filled containers are taken up again by the LEO transporter and automatically transferred to Bito's piece goods flow rack. The "LEO carrier," equipped with a fixed rack structure, operates as another driverless transport vehicle in the production cycle, running its designated route in parallel to move goods from point A to point B. If the demand location changes, the route can be flexibly interrupted at the push of a button by the user to send the AGV to the new destination.
Automated Picking in Combination with Automated Small Parts Storage
In the automation of picking processes, the system is based on the intelligent networking of smart labels on the containers with the driverless LEO transport system and a central control software. Employees request the needed material from the automated small parts storage at the push of a button on the smart label, which automatically generates a transport order. The “LEO FTS” collects the requested containers from the automated small parts storage and transports them to the appropriate picking station. The smart labels continuously display the current order status and the container contents. After the material is removed, the empty containers are returned automatically without a manual intervention being necessary. The software controls all processes, monitors inventories, and triggers automatic reorders when minimum stock levels are undershot. In the picking process, the smart labels serve as digital information carriers and request interface, and the LEO transporters handle the internal routes and logistics as AGVs. The automated small parts storage is the central supply point. An intelligent control software with WMS and ERP integration enables real-time monitoring of all material flows and inventories.
