Skechers and Knapp drive European logistics forward with a new distribution center

The company Skechers is investing in a new highly automated European distribution center in Liège, Belgium. For the intralogistics of the new facility, the global lifestyle and performance brand relies on Knapp as a technology partner. The logistics center will be gradually put into operation, with the final go-live scheduled for mid-2030. From the end of 2028, the facility designed for growth is expected to supply the European market from a single location.

The existing European distribution center in Milmort, Province of Liège, is reaching its capacity limits due to the ongoing growth of Skechers. According to the company, the new construction pursues two main objectives: ensuring long-term distribution capacities in Europe and reducing manual processes to remain competitive and flexible in the future. “For more than 23 years, Skechers has relied on Wallonia as a strategic base for its European activities. This new development stage is the next chapter in our success story. The vast, highly automated, and sustainable building puts us at the forefront of European logistics and makes us fit for the future,” explains David Weinberg, COO of Skechers.

Total Solution for All Material Flows

Knapp implements an integrated total solution for Skechers for all material flows from goods receipt to dispatch. The core of the facility is an "Evo Shuttle" system for direct carton storage with more than three million storage locations. The solution is complemented by additional shuttle systems for replenishment and buffering processes, goods-to-person workstations, automated pallet storage, as well as extensive conveyor and sorting systems. Knapp's intelligent software suite "KiSoft" connects all processes and ensures maximum transparency, efficiency, and scalability throughout the entire supply chain. The automation allows the handling of continuously growing volumes while maintaining high availability and service quality.

The solution was specifically designed to flexibly handle a wide range of carton and product sizes and to support the further expansion of Skechers. "This next-generation logistics center, developed in close collaboration with the Skechers teams, represents a significant technological advancement. The solution combines a high level of integration and performance to efficiently process large volumes while ensuring excellent service for customers," explains Oliver Lehner, Vice President Partner & Products Solutions at Knapp.

Long-term Partnership as a Success Factor

The decisive factors for the awarding of the project were, in addition to the technical solution concept, particularly the long-standing collaboration between the two companies, the innovative strength of Knapp technologies, and the comprehensive service concept. Knapp not only supports Skechers in the realization of the new distribution center but also assists in the ongoing operation with its Smart Maintenance Approach. This combines predictive maintenance with an on-site resident engineering concept to ensure maximum system availability.
