TGW Logistics implements automation project for the Spanish furniture specialist Kave

The Spanish furniture and home decor provider Kave is having its new Fulfillment Center in Tordera near Barcelona automated by TGW Logistics. According to the intralogistics provider, the commissioning of the distribution center is scheduled for late 2028. The facility is intended to handle goods flows for e-commerce, retail, and business customers and is designed for up to 21,000 packages per day.

The automation concept combines an automated small parts warehouse with a pallet high-bay warehouse, mobile "Quba" robots, and automated palletizing processes. It is supplemented by conveyor technology as well as palletizing and depalletizing robots. Ergonomically designed picking workstations are provided for manual tasks.

A special feature of the project is the different dimensions of the goods to be handled. The range extends from packages with dimensions of 400 x 300 millimeters to special formats with dimensions of 2,400 x 1,200 millimeters. This means that the system must be able to process both smaller shipments and large-volume items from the furniture range.

Common Zone for Palletizing

The goods come from three areas of the distribution center. These are the automated small parts warehouse, the pallet warehouse, and the double pallet warehouse. The material flows from these areas are consolidated in a common palletizing zone.

Mobile "Quba" robots take over the transport of pallets and roll cages within the facility. The combination of stationary conveyor technology, robotics, and mobile transport solutions is intended to automate a large part of the processes.

93,000 Pallet Positions Planned

With the new fulfillment center, Kave aims to significantly expand its storage capacities. A total of 93,000 pallet positions are planned. According to the company, this corresponds to more than double the current warehouse volume. The additional capacity is part of the furniture provider's international growth and expansion strategy. The distribution center is intended to cover the increasing demand through various sales channels and to create the logistical prerequisites for further growth.
